Knitting a jumper(sweater). Designing as I go. (Top-Down)

Hello everyone 🙋🏽‍♀️ and good morning Sunday😊

Today my family and I were going to go to the beach. But the weather is rainy, windy and overcast. So we changed our mind and spending the day relaxing at home. So I have time to post something about my jumper.

Sometime last week I went to Spotlight (craft store). I guess it might be similar to Micheal or Joann stores in America. I wouldn’t have a clue because I’ve never been there, only heard about it. Anyway, I went to Spotlight last week..  lol yeah I know! I have an addiction / obsession problem with Spotlight. 😀 But only the craft sections especially the yarn aisle; “Life’s to short let’s buy more yarn”, why not? hahaha

I had seen this yarn (Fishermen’s Wool by Lion Brand) in their store on several previous visits, but it was expensive. But last week; it was on Sale!! So I bought a few skeins even though I had no clue what I was going to use it for. We’ve all been there, right? 🙋🏽‍♀️ So I decided to use it to make a jumper (think in other countries it’s called a sweater).

First I viewed a couple of tutorials for raglan pattern ideas, working from the top down as I wanted to do something simple. I found one that I kinda liked, so I started following the pattern. But once I got to the arm holes, I started to improvise and create my own creation.

As I started this project I realised this yarn is not as soft as I thought it would be. But I continued anyway to practice my knitting abilities and work on my own design skills.

My son was modelling for me… so it’s not quite his size. But actually I like the off-shoulder look.

I’ve finished the body section and have now started the sleeves.

I decided to do three quarters of my sleeves and do simple lace stitch pattern. I quite like how it turn out! Now is time to block my jumper.

Here is my jumper before I block it. As you can see it’s a bit out of shape.

This is my first time blocking a knitted jumper. I knitted a jumper for my son before but I never dared to block it because I thought I was going to wash the garment after anyway. I didn’t realise that blocking a project after it’s finished is so important!

Now I’m so glad that I blocked my jumper! Doesn’t it look so much better now 😊

I had so much fun knitting and learnt a lot making this jumper. Hopefully I’ll be casting on my next jumper soon and I can’t wait for the weather to get cooler so I can wear my jumper. 😁

Have a great day and happy knitting ➰

XO..
