How to knit Poppies for Anzac Day or Remberance Days

On the 25th April every year in Australia we celebrate Anzac Day to remember all those fallen.

Tomorrow my family and I are planing to attend the Dawn Service ceremony.
We couldn’t find poppies to buy, so I decided to make my own.

Here is my first knitting video tutorial. I’m still learning how to get the right angle for my camera.I had some difficulty seeing what I was doing. Hopefully with a bit more practice I’ll get more comfortable recording while knitting.



Materials

Yarn : 100%  Acrylic ( yarn of your choice ) Red and Black colour.

Needles : Pair of 4mm knitting needles or circular knitting needles  ( small or big flowers depends on sizes of needles and yarn you use ).

Tapestry needle

Scissors ✂️


LET’S BEGIN!

With Red colour Cast on. 36 sts.

Row 1.  ( Right side ) knit to the end.

Row 2.  ( Wrong side ) purl to the end.

Row 3.  ( Right side ) Knit to the end.

Row 4.  ( Wrong side ) Purl to the end.

Row 5 : K5, twist the right knitting needle back to front, K9,twist the right knitting needle back to front, K9, twist the right knitting needle back to fron, tK9,twist the right knitting needle back to front,  K4. “ try not to knit too tight on this row”. ( 36 sts. )

Row 6 : Change the yarn colour to black. *P2tog. Rep from * to the end. ( 18 sts. )

Row 7 : *K2tog. Rep from* to the end. ( 9 sts. )

Row 8 : *P2tog to the last 1 sts, P last 1 sts. ( 5 sts. )

Cut the yarn and leave a long tail. Slip the remaining sts knitwise with the tapestry needle and weave all the ends. Don’t forget to sew the petals flower together.

TAADAA!!
